One of the premier pet wellness companies in the market, PetMeds tapped James Ross Agency to elevate brand engagement and put their paw prints on a new brand-forward approach to marketing. We quickly got to work sniffing out better solutions for critical channels that impact the sales funnel, including email marketing and direct mail design. In addition, we helped them activate key behavioral audiences with targeted advertising and landing pages.

The impact of well-designed direct response

When we stepped in, PetMeds was in the middle of transitioning from their legacy branding as “1-800-PetMeds” to a modern interned-based brand identity. But many of their marketing assets languished under outdated branding. We started by designing all-new direct mail pieces, breathing new life into highly-visible letters and postcards that drive significant revenue every year. Knowing many pet owners treat their furry friends like family, our design approach sought to highlight that emotional attachment. To create a positive brand experience and delight pet owners, we made “happy, healthy pets” the heroes visually, rather than imagery focused on pills and medications.

For email marketing, we took a similar approach, upping the excitement factor with fresh, eye-catching imagery designed to translate well on mobile devices, and better showcasing the brand’s valuable offers, deals and benefits to the consumer.

Digging deeper on audience targeting

As the company’s branding revamp continued, one of their premier initiatives was to engage and activate core audience segments identified via deep market research. James Ross lead the creative design development by tapping into key attributes identified within each audience segment, creating a full-funnel test plan, along with hyper-relevant messaging and imagery throughout. We developed results-oriented website wireframes and impactful landing page designs that provided the consumer with one unified end-to-end experience throughout the funnel.
